Whether examined in macrocosm or microcosm, the universe is filled with space. The Upanishads talk about how most of life, most of reality is nothingness. Physicists seek the smallest particle that can be found and yet are well aware that the universe is comprised mostly of the space between the particles. From the earliest theories of Atomicus to the latest postulations of Stephen Hawking, we are in a process of understanding and one of the most profound discoveries is that most of our universe is made up of space. The speed of the vibration determines the constellation and thus the fabric of that which we are observing. Matter is vibrating at a slower speed than light. On a simple, practical level, it is the space which often best defines the design. Whether in architecture, or in web design, in creating a film or directing a stage production, the space is an essential component and must be considered at all times. In our houses, it is the space which we move through that enables us to enjoy our furniture. We may sit upon a chair, but only if it is empty. The trunk can be used only if it is empty, once full, it can no longer be added to. The act of removing something from space creates more space. Space and matter are essential to each other.
