Taos Tao #17
Government

Good Government is not intrusive
the people are hardly aware of it
the next best is felt yet loved
then comes that which is known and feared
the worst government is hated

when a leader lacks trust
people lose confidence

words are like wind
a gentle breeze is better
less is more

Good work is that
which the people lay claim to
saying "See what we can do!"

Interpretation

Writers referenced: Lau, Kwok - Palmer - Ramsay, Hansen, Feng - English, Beck

Wise Leaders are able to inspire without being an overwhelming presence. Americans have never liked government intrusion preferring the government to stay out of the bedroom, away from their bank accounts and preferably not to be seen. But if this is not the case, most Americans prefer a compassionate ruler to a despotic one. The least liked rulers seem to be those who are deceitful. A good ruler will inspire people so that they will feel things are their own ideas and when something is accomplished will feel proud of the work as if it were there own.
