Taos Tao #41
Wisdom

The Wise hear of the way and begin to walk it
The mediocre hear of the way and have doubts
The foolish hear of the way and laugh aloud
if there was no laughter, it would not be the way

Therefore we hear whispers:
The way that is bright seems dull
The way that is progressive seems to go backward
The way that is smoothest seems to be rough
The highest virtue is found in the prostitute
the purest virgin is just a sullied substitute
measured virtue seems lame
vigorous virtue seems lazy
simple virtue is a peasant

the perfect square has no corners
Greatest Talents mature with time
Highest notes are hardest to hear
the Greatest form has no shape
The way is hidden
having no name
yet only by travelling the way,
do we find fulfillment
nourishment
completion

Interpretation

Writers referenced : Beck, Lau, McDonald, Mitchell, Merel

Wisdom is truly demonstrated by the embodiment of DivineUnity and those who do this outpicture all the qualities of Great Spirit. It is written that one should only share the inner secrets of the Lotus Sutra with those who are ready for the sacred knowledge of the truth of their DivineUnity. Those who are not ready may simply harm themselves through slandering the teaching and thus putting more challenges into effect in their lives. The truth of DivineUnity is hard to grasp and difficult to understand. This is perhaps because it is so simple and powerful. We must have a sense of humour and be willing to laugh at ourselves and to laugh along the way. Laughter is powerful medicine and we must use it. Taking ourselves too seriously, we are more liable to land with a thud instead of bouncing back easily.
