Taos Tao #43
Non Action
(Wu Wei)

The softest water breaks the hardest stone
carves the block with no effort

that which lacks substance
can enter where there is no space

thus there is strength in non-action

Teaching without words
power of wu wei
beyond the understanding
of the majority

Interpretation

Writers referenced : Beck, Feng-English, Ganson, Lau

"My effort should never be to undermine another's faith but to make him a better follower of his own faith." Mahatma Gandhi
When we look at the Grand Canyon we see the way that soft water carves away the stone. When we look at the work of Ghandi and Martin Luther King and compare it to the work of the terrorists, we can see that soft action rooted in love transform the world and mainfest justice while hard actions rooted in hatred simply creates more injustice. "Resist no evil." As we focus our minds on good, we manifest it. It is wise to focus on the solution, instead of fighting the problem . Just like Ghandi, we must lead by example using forms that are not violent and we will manifest great change in ourselves and the world.
